Reflect: Distracted Driving Assembly

Yesterday, everyone attended the Distracted Driving Assembly in the auditorium.  I'd like for you to reflect on that experience and tell me how you were affected.  What was the most effective part of the presentation?  What was the least effective?  Did it make you re-think your behaviors while driving?  What was the one thing that really made you think?  Did you sign the pledge card?  Was it worth attending?

Your comments should be at least two paragraphs.  Please be honest!

  1. I fell asleep after the first video, so I wouldn't know. But I already pledged to myself that I wouldn't use my cell-phone or participate in other distracting things while I'm driving.

  2. The most affective part was the first video they showed. The least affective was the skit. No because I don't text and drive. The first video they showed of the car accident. Yes I did sign. Yes it was worth attending because this is a very important matter.

  8. The presentation made me not want to be a distracted driver because i never want one of those things to happen to me. I thought the second video from the UK was the most effective because it grossed me out and made me feel bad. since i do not drive it didnt make me think about my habits but it did make me think about the habits of my parents while they drive.
The thing that made me think the most was the video about the guy in jail because he barely hit a car and they got killed. I did sign the pledge card because I don't want to die. I thought it was worth attending because it was very informative.

  9. I think the most effective video was the UK video because it made me cry. The part where the kid was saying, "Mommy, Daddy, why won't you wake up" was really heartbreaking! the least effective was the skit because it was kind of comical. I did sign the pledge and won;t text and drive because I never want to be responsible for anyones death.
I did not like the kids who laughed or made fun of the UK video, because that wasn't funny. I wish that people could've been more mature about the presentation. The second most effective video was the one about the guy in jail. It was obvious that he was upset and wished he had doen things diffrently.

  10. I was not in school so I don't know much about the presentaion, but I don't think I will ever text and drive anyway, I do not want to hurt myself or anyone in the car or around me.

  11. I think the most effective part of the presentation was the second video they showed (The UK dramaization) because it showed the dangers, and what you can do to other families.
I think the least effective part was the skit, I understand they worked hard to present it, but it pretty much was the same thing as the UK video.
I don't text and drive, but I think it reinforced my decision to not do it.
I really liked the UK video because it really made me think, you can leave children without their parents for their whole lives. Why would you do that?
I did sign the pledge card because I already follow those 'rules'.
I think it was worth attending, and I think other people should have taken it more seriously. You CAN kill people with bad choices, so we shouldn't be joking about it and we shouldn't have been talking during the presentation.

  13. The most effective part of the presentation was how unfair texting while driving is, how the girl who was texting and driving was the one who lived and how everyone else died because of her. The least effective part was the skit because it wasnt as realistic as the real thing. No, because i dont drive. The thing that really made me think was how the baby died, and when the kids were yelling to their parents. Yes i signed the pledge card, and it was worth attending, it made more people think twice.

  14. I thought all of the parts of the esembly were effective...but for me the most effective part of the whole thing was when they showed the movie clip from the UK actors because it made me think that i will be driving soon and i dont want to be responsible for the deaths of my friends and others as well. i thought that the skit was well done, but it effected me the least. i did sign the pledge card and I thought the whole assembly wasworth attending because this will effect the lives of many drivers in the future/

  15. I feel that the dramatization of a texting wile driving situation was very graphic, and was probably the most effective out of all the other sources of information that they presented during the assembly.
I also think that teens should already be smart enough to not text wile driving, but then again, there are many people that lack plenty of other things along with their common sense.

  16. I think the most effective part was the video from the UK. The least effective was when they did the skit. I already decided a long time ago that i would never text or drive, but i signed the pledge form anyways because you get a free t-shirt. It was worth attending though, alot of that stuff i didnt know

  17. The most effective part of the presentation was the video about the guy killing those people while texting and driving and going to jail. It was the most effective because when the wives of the men who were killed were talking about their lives that they were going to live after retirement and the goals they had in their lives.
The least effective was the skit the students performed. Yes it did make me re-think my behaviors while driving because i am about to get my license. the thing that made me think was just looking down for a second can cause an accident. yes i signed the pledge card. Yes it was worth atteding, it changed my views about texting and driving.

  18. I think the most effective part was the videos.
they were very graphic and they got to me. The least effective part was the skit. It was dull and boring. Yes, I don't drive but I won't text when I drive. The one thing that really made me think is when Reggie Shaw barely looked down and killed those two men. Now, he has a fine to pay and spend at least thirty days in jail. I did sign the pledge card and the assembly was worth attending.

  19. The most effective part of the presentation was the video about the guy going to jail. It was the most effective because when the wives of the men who were killed were talking about how they had such big goals for their families and retirement. It really was sad when she said he will never be able to walk his kids down the isle. The least effective was the skit the students performed. It didnt really grasp the point for me and it wasnt really long enough to get my attention.
The video did make me re-think my behaviors because when i do get my license i will know to be careful because it will have long lasting conquences. the one thing that really made me think was the fine of texting and getting caught. Yes i signed the pledge and it was worth attending.

  22. The assembly yesterday was very eye opening in my opinion; I never would have thought that this much damage could have been done with one text message. The video we watched yesterday from the UK was the most affective on me. I can totally relate to what was happening. I know if I was in those teenagers situation I probably would fall under the temptation of trying to have a good time, rather than keeping my eyes on the road. I am a new driver and after that video I would defiantly never text and drive. Everything was pretty effective in this presentation, but I the least in my opinion was the prosecutor. He had good points but I would rather see what he was saying in action. This defiantly made me think about my driving habits, I know that I would be a lot safer if I just stay off the phone while driving. The first video when the innocent people died in the other car, the only thing I could think was what if I just killed the parents to that family? Even worse what if those were my parents that were killed. This presentation was worth going to.

  23. The most effective part of the whole presentation was when the 4 girls were in the car and the driver was texting and she crashed and killed all her friends and others in other cars. It convinced me to not text and drive.

  27. The most effective part of the whole thing was the video in which the girl was texting while her friends were in the back. They got in the accident and she was all beat up and everyone else was dead except for the little girl in the back of the car. It showed that just a split second can end many lives. The least effective was the skit because it was so obviously unreal.
The presentations did make me rethink my behaviors while driving/being a passenger in a car. The one thing that really made me think was the amount of deaths and percentage of total accidents due to distracted driving. I did sign the pledge and it was worth attending.

  28. I think the assembly about distracted driving was worth attending because most teenagers text all the time and now that teenagers are able to start driving at 14 and 8 months old, we need to be more careful. The thing that really got to me during the assembly was the very realistic video of the car crash and it just hurt me inside seeing that little girl in the back seat wanting her mom and dad to wake up and they never would. Just to imagine that happening in real life (and it probably does everyday) just hurts, and we could prevent it by not looking at signs on the side of the road, texting, changing the radio station/CD/Mp3 player, and alot more. There are alot of things that you could do to help stop people from driving distracted. The most dangerous form of distracted driving is texting. The thing that I didn't really like was the little skit, it just seemed cheesey and for some people it made them laugh, not look at the dangers of it. Because of all the things i've learned this week and the things I will learn thoughout the week and the rest of my life, I will not drive distracted.

  30. I think the most effective part of the presentation was the real one, with O’dell. The least effective I think is the British movie. The one thing that made me think is when they were talking about Oregon and it’s new laws! I don’t think it was worth attending. I did sing the pledge.

  31. The most effective part of the presentation to me was the first video we watched. I thought it was authentic and depressing. The least effective part of the presentation was the skit put on by the students. I think this because it was not very realistic. Before I get my license, I will remember to put my cell phone in a place that I will not be tempted to use it. One thing that really made me think was to not use cell phones and drive because it's dangerous to me and the ones around me. Yes I signed the pledge and it was worth attending.

  32. The most effective part of the presentatin was the UK video, it was distubing and definatly taught me not to ever text and drive. The least effective, in my oppinoin was the skit because it was cheesy and dull. Yes, it made me re- think my behaviors of driving because of the videos.
The one thing that relly made me think was the dead baby, it really made me think that this could happen to anybody and it could ruin your whole life. Yes I did sign the pledge. I did not want to go, but yes it was worth attending, it really made you scared of what happens when you text and drive, and for people that do text and drive , it prabably made them reconsider texting and driving.

  33. I thought the skit was childish and didnt really send a message, I also thought the UK video was a bit over dramatic. I dont think anyone payed attention to the guy with the power point. I think the most effective was the video by showing that carnage. I think it was worth attending But putting the video at the end would of been more affective I think. no I didnt sign the plege card I didnt think it would matter if I did or not. i cant drive so i didnt really rethink anything.
